This depends on whether the motherboard supports it or not. Also depends on whether your motherboard has the WIN7 version of the AHCI driver.

As long as it is not very old motherboard support, there are solid state drives, you must open AHCI.

Question: Motherboard Model MAXSAN AMD A75X+ Turbo REV 3.0
    Chipset AMD K12
    Motherboard version 3.0
BIOS version American Megatrends Inc. 4.6.5 / BIOS Release Date: July 07, 2017
    BIOS size 1024 KB

Answer: Supported, unless you install XP with IDE mode, install WIN7 with AHCI

No, but finished If you change the hard disk mode after the system, there will be problems such as blue screen.
